California drama cuts into speech coverage
NEW YORK, Tue Feb 12, 09:44 PM

The California standoff involving fugitive Christopher Dorner cut into news network coverage previewing President Obama's State of the Union address.

But by the time the president entered the Capitol for his address Tuesday night, television's focus had shifted to the annual Washington ritual.

ABC briefly mentioned the Dorner drama before shifting into a discussion of gun violence being on the minds of many attending Obama's speech. CNN's sister network, HLN, presented full-time coverage of the Dorner story when the main network presented the State of the Union.

On the cable news networks, much of the hour leading up to the speech was spent on the California story instead of previewing Obama's address.
